Grass Hopper
Efficient Sugar Conveying, Drying & Cooling System
Sattyam Engineers’ Grass Hopper is designed for efficient conveying, drying and cooling of sugar crystals in the Sugar House section of a sugar manufacturing plant. It provides smooth and controlled movement of sugar discharged from centrifugal machines while facilitating hot-air and cold-air circulation for effective moisture reduction and cooling.
The system is engineered for continuous operation, reliable sugar handling and easy integration with downstream equipment such as Sugar Elevators, Graders and Storage Silos. Sattyam Engineers designs and manufactures the system according to the plant capacity, layout and specific operational requirements.

Types of Grass Hopper
Designed for efficient sugar conveying, drying, and cooling, these systems ensure smooth material handling, controlled moisture reduction, and reliable sugar transfer throughout sugar house operations.
The Plain Tray Grass Hopper is installed below the centrifugal machines to receive and convey discharged sugar crystals toward the subsequent stages of the Sugar House. It provides reliable and continuous transportation of sugar while maintaining a simple and robust construction.
Applications
- Receiving sugar from centrifugal machines
- Horizontal sugar conveying
- Feeding sugar to multi-tray grass hoppers
- Continuous sugar-house operation
The Multi-Tray Grass Hopper is designed for combined sugar conveying and drying/cooling operations. Its tray arrangement provides effective exposure of sugar crystals to air, helping reduce moisture and cool the sugar before it moves to the next processing stage.
Applications
- Sugar conveying
- Sugar drying
- Sugar cooling
- Moisture reduction
- Feeding downstream sugar-handling equipment
A Hot Air Grass Hopper incorporates a hot-air blowing arrangement to assist in reducing moisture from sugar crystals during conveying. It is generally positioned in the drying section of the Sugar House to improve sugar quality before further handling.
Key Benefits:
- Effective moisture reduction
- Improved sugar drying
- Continuous operation
- Uniform air circulation
- Integrated conveying and drying
A Cold Air Grass Hopper is used after the drying stage to cool the sugar crystals before they proceed to grading, elevation or storage. Controlled cold-air circulation helps bring the sugar to a suitable temperature for subsequent handling.
Key Benefits:
- Effective sugar cooling
- Controlled air circulation
- Improved downstream handling
- Continuous sugar movement
- Suitable for integration with graders and elevators
